Breaking Down the Miami Dolphins 2017 Opponents

Miami Dolphins, commonly referred as the Dolphins, has been in the NFL since 1970. The Dolphins are a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East Division. The headquarters of the Dolphins is Davie, Florida. The team typically plays their home games at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida. The Miami Dolphins won the Super Bowls in the consecutive years of 1973 and 1974.

The 2016 season has ended. The list of opponents the Miami Dolphins will play for the 2017 NFL season is out. There is a lot that goes into who plays who, but the league really tries to make sure every team will play at least one game in every stadium once every eight years.  Therefore, this year the AFC East will face off against the AFC West and the NFC South. That makes up eight of their games, plus you have the six they play against their own division.

Each team plays sixteen games each season. With 14 of them already accounted for in the last paragraph that leaves us with two remaining.  Those are scheduled against teams in the same conference, but the division they don’t play every team in.  Instead, they match up last year’s place in the standings, so the 2nd place in the AFC East will play the 2nd place team in the AFC North and AFC South.  That is how we come up with the list of opponents for next season already.

Predictions on the Team’s 2017 Season

The 2016 season saw the Miami Dolphins finishing second in AFC East Division. Last season, it was evident to me that the Dolphins need to improve on defense. I think there are mixed reactions regarding the performance of the Dolphins in 2017. I however think the Dolphins will have a great season in 2017.

In 2016, the Dolphins defeated the Bills and Jets. Believe me, if the Dolphins can take one point from the Patriots and four from the Jets and Bills this year, they will be leading the East division with 5-1. I foresee a tough game for the Dolphins as they face San Diego and Kansas City on the road. In my view, AFC West division teams were all pretty good last year.

I have observed that the Dolphins perform well at home against teams from the West Coast. I am confident that the Dolphins will beat the Raiders. My expectation is that the Dolphins will also defeat Tennessee and Tampa Bay.

The Carolina Panthers weren’t very good last year, but I would expect them to be one of the most improved next year, and the Atlanta Falcons just made the Super Bowl.  Getting both of those teams on the road is going to be difficult.  It’s also unfortunate we lose a home game and have to go to London to face the Saints, that’s more of a toss up now than advantage us.

In conclusion, I have confidence the Dolphins can improve on their double digit win total and get to 11 wins. They are going to have to nearly sweep the seven games in Miami, then figure out how to win just half of the remaining games on the road and in London.  It won’t be easy, but Adam Gase is a great coach who can get it done.
