Fishing reports should be used as a general guide. Fishing condtions change on a day to day basis but these reports should give you an overview of what's going on. July 18, 2010 Maine fishing reports- striped bass and tuna HOT 85-90 degrees Well- we are certainly having the summer weather we have missed over the the last 2 seasons. Temps in the high 80's to lower 90's for several weeks now.
The fly fishing for stripers has been ok, still not the gangbuster fishing of years past but many nice sized fish around. Most in the 7-15lb range and seeing some bigger 20-25lb fish. Most of my fish have been caught in 1-3' of water and fish seem to be on the crab/ shrimp patterns now. Baitfish pattersn still workinh early morings.
As the temps go up the fishing is restricted to early morning for the best of the bite. We are trying to fish the tides from 5:30 'til around 10:00 for the best fishing.
Bluefin tuna are spotty but decent in certain areas, they have not settled into regular feeding patterns on a daily basis yet. There is a large mix in sizes this year, seeing fish from 300lbs to 30lbs !! Any day now and we should see consistent numbers along the coast.
Keeping you informed on this wonderful fly fishing fishery.
